Bali: our address book in Canggu and a secret getaway

posted in: Features 0

A confidential hotel, 15 tried and tested addresses in Canggu and a secret destination to discover. Here is our address book in Bali, prepared with the greatest care.

Where to stay in Canggu: The Corduroy Hotel

This is a confidential address, super well located, elegant. The Corduroy Hotel was recommended to us by Erin Wasson, top model, design enthusiast and long-time friend of the owner of the place – Ozlem Esen. Open for less than a year, this hotel, located a few minutes walk from Echo Beach, was designed by Ozlem herself. This creative and generous personality who has always evolved in the worlds of music and fashion, has brought together in the Corduroy Hotel everything she loves with a subtle mix of aesthetics borrowed from rock’n’roll, hip hop and fashion.

Two years ago, she undertook to transform an old surf camp on the riverside in Canggu into an intimate and relaxed luxury hotel. She imagined 9 suites and rooms with different universes ranging from traditional Balinese style, to Japanese, Scandinavian minimalist, to Italian baroque, through a seventies atmosphere or even a cabin suspended above the river. Another detail that we really liked: the musical selection, simply perfect, which punctuates the day around the emerald swimming pool.

My aim was always a very organic process. I wanted people to walk in and immediately feel connected to the trees, the scents, and have all their senses heightened.

Ozlem Esen

In addition to staying at the Corduroy Hotel, we had the pleasure of interviewing Ozlem Esen.

15 Addresses, all styles combined, in Canggu

The offer of restaurants and coffee shops is so immense in Bali, that it is impossible to try everything. Nevertheless, we can give you a list of 15 tested and approved places to eat Indonesian, Japanese, Italian, Mexican… or Italian-Japanese, Indo-Chinese… Healthy or very fatty. Suggestions to watch the sunset and bring back great gifts towards Echo Beach.

– At Echo Beach:

  • La Brisa : huge beach club with great decor, swimming pools, beach access, tree houses, spa… The food is good. It’s a bit too much perhaps, and stormed by tourists. The nicest is probably their Sunday Market. Every Sunday, until 4pm, La Brisa organizes a large market bringing together food and designer stands with traditional Indonesian offerings and more contemporary offerings. Ideal for bringing back great gifts.
  • Times Beach Warung : directly on the beach, this establishment is much more casual than the Brisa. No swimming pool and a more relaxed atmosphere with a menu from breakfast to dinner. Two Tuesdays a month, it’s Movie Night with a screening on the beach to watch a movie with your feet in the sand.

– In the heart of Canggu and Perenean

  • Mosto : this is the first natural wine bar in Canggu. The cuisine is entrusted to an Italian chef and the wine selection to a French sommelier. In a setting close to the small bistro a stone’s throw from an equally recommendable massage parlor.
  • Santanera : a perfect example of the cross-culture claimed in Bali with a Colombian chef and a German chef at the helm of a Mediterranean-inspired menu. Cocktails, natural wines to sip on the rooftop.
  • Bokashi : grocery store, tea room and Japanese restaurant as pretty as it is good. The menu is prepared with products largely grown in their garden.
  • Numero Quattro : an Italian restaurant just a stone’s throw from Echo Beach with an open kitchen, good music and beautiful decor.
  • Aoyama Bakery : a real Japanese bakery-cafe for a quick bite to eat something sweet or savory that is particularly kawaii. Special mention for the matcha latte.
  • BURGR Link : a mini spot for cravings for super soft smash burgers.

– In Umalas and Kerobokan:

  • Bu Ros : a great place recommended by locals to taste traditional dishes like rawon – a delicious, ultra-flavorful black soup made with beef.
  • Dimsum Chika : rich and spicy Indonesian-Chinese comfort food, for a real Nasi Goreng.
  • Remix : booster shots, cold-pressed fruit juices, and a very varied healthy and gourmet menu.
  • 7 AM : an address for early risers or for those who can’t do without good baguettes during the holidays.
  • Satoshi : once again an address that claims to fuse two cultures on the plate. Here, the cuisine is Italian-Japanese and the setting very chic.
  • Tacos Aqui : Subtle tacos washed down with margarita in a Mexican pop decor that instantly puts you in a good mood.

Bonus: we leave Canggu for a nature getaway in Amed

If you want to complete your trip with a more sophisticated getaway than Uluwatu and Ubud, we recommend Amed. A fishing village located on the northeast coast of Bali. Peaceful and authentic, with the Agung volcano as a backdrop. The Mathis Lodge , located at an altitude of 400 meters, is the only hotel complex to have settled in the heights of Amed in the middle of a magnificent 2-hectare plot.
